Gaultier

Today is famed French designer Jean Paul Gaultier's birthday and I can't think of a better reason to post these pics I've been hoarding for the past few months. These are from his exhibit at the Brooklyn Museum, "From Sidewalk to Catwalk".  From the themes to the clothes to the execution, it was hands down one of the coolest exhibits I've ever experienced. I took over 200 pictures, but managed to narrow it down to some of my favorites. Enjoy!

The exhibit started with superimposed faces on mannequins. How creative is that? That was only the beginning....

There you have it! Beading, feathers, fur, fringe, buckles, corsets and embroidery galore. Gaultier's bold designs continue to leave a major impact in the fashion world. It might be his birthday, but he has given us the gift! I hope you're inspired to have a bold day!

Young Love

I love this picture. The optimism in their eyes always makes me feel a bit sentimental. Beautiful and inspiring. This is a photo of my parents on their wedding day, almost 50 years ago. It's relevant for two reasons, the first being that today is my mother's birthday and the second being that I just began looking for my own wedding dress and so far it has been a struggle to find that one dress that has all the elements that I am looking for. It is so hard to find a simply elegant, unique, chic, modern wedding dress with just a hint of sexy that's will be comfortable enough to wear in 90 degree weather?? Apparently... so the search continues. My mother actually made her wedding dress, along with many pieces in her wardrobe. Lucky for me, I have an appreciation for vintage items and she still has a few things left! And speaking of weddings....

See that tall fellow in front of the church door? That's my daddy when he was a teenager at his sister's wedding!! Fast forward to a few years ago, someone spotted this picture on the cover of the book Nubian Weddings, by Ingrid Sturgis. How cool is that?? Long story short, the photographer sold the picture to the author and it wound up on the cover. I love how even the bridesmaids looked like they were getting married. For people who grew up poor, this bridal party rivals the royal wedding if you ask me. Well, all this wedding talk has me feeling like there's a to-do list somewhere that needs to be scratched off. Enjoy the rest of your week!!

My WOREriors

Few things make me happier than seeing my customers enjoying the clothes or accessories they purchased from Love & Wore. I always encourage my girls to get what feels right, not what they think they should buy. Quality clothes always sell themselves, plus, no one likes a pushy saleswomen, do they??? Here are some pictures of my woreriors from the Cocktails and Couture trunk show, the women that brought the clothes that fit both their style and lifestyle.

She copped this gorgeous vintage skirt by Oscar de la Renta

and she scored this vibrant vintage printed top...

This vintage Givenchy choker is right on trend,

while this vintage black mink jacket is a timeless addition to her wardrobe...

This versatile peplum suit can be worn together or separately,

And this perforated leather skirt is sooo sick...

This 80's lace mermaid dress is one of my favorite pieces,

And this mother-daughter duo are fly in this vintage fur smock and sequin dress...

She was pleased with her purchases which included a leopard print pillbox hat, fox fur coat, a multi strand pearl necklace and this exquisite beaded and mesh dress..

Have a great week and remember, no matter what you buy, make sure it makes you smile from the inside out!

Part Deux Preview

Here's just a lil sample of what's to come at the Cocktails and Couture (Part Deux) trunk show. This is one of my favorite collections to date, with looks that could be straight off of the runway! There are influences from Saint Laurent & Marni, with some vintage Givenchy, Oscar De La Renta and Lanvin. There are also tons of non designer pieces that are just as fab. Mixing high and low pieces makes a more interesting outfit anyway.

With this collection, I focused on mix-n-match patterns and intricate detailing.  Although I am a summer girl at heart, fall dressing is way more fun with all the layering, rich hues and textures. All the pieces appeal to different women, but can also be part of someone's eclectic wardrobe. (Mine! lol) Don't miss out, there's still time to RSVP- www.cocktailsandcouture2.eventbrite.com. More pics to come, see you there!
